Alijah Arenas, son of former Wizards star Gilbert Arenas, in coma after LA crash: reports

WASHINGTON (7News) — USC commit Alijah Arenas, the son of former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas, was placed into an induced coma after a serious crash in the Los Angeles area early Thursday morning, according to multiple reports.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials told ESPN that a Tesla Cybertruck crashed into a tree/fire hydrant before a fire broke shortly before 5 a.m. local time. The driver, an 18-year-old, was taken to the hospital shortly after.

TMZ reports that Alijah was placed into a coma due to smoke inhalation.

It’s unclear what caused the wreck.

Sources told ESPN that Arenas, who lives in the Chatsworth area of Los Angeles County and was set to join USC Trojans’ Basketball team this upcoming season, was involved in the crash but did not suffer broken bones.

Alijah’s father, Gilbert, played in the NBA from 2001 to 2012 and spent eight seasons with the Wizards, according to ESPN data. Gilbert was set to host a podcast on Thursday, but has since cancelled it.

Alijah is the No.13-ranked recruit in the class of 2025 and committed to the Trojans after reclassifying in December.
