Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala pulled off another upset in the Miami Open, this time against Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, 7-6 (2), 7-5, on early Saturday (Philippine time) in the tournament’s Round of 64.
Eala, ranked no. 140 by WTA, defeated the 2017 French Open champion and WTA no. 25 Ostapenko to advance to the Round of 32.
Prior to this, Eala defeated WTA no. 73 player Katie Volynets of the United States.
Her next opponent, however, has yet to be determined as 2025 Australian Open champion and WTA no. 5 Madison Keys of the United States will still take on Elina Avanesyan of Armenia.
