Photos: Hughes Fire threatens Castaic, California

Firefighters are working to contain a new wildfire, dubbed the Hughes Fire, which exploded east of Lake Castaic in northern Los Angeles County on Wednesday. The fire had charred more than 3,400 acres by 12:30 p.m. with no containment.

Evacuation orders included homes and businesses surrounding the lake, including the city of Castaic. The cause of the fire was unknown.

The Hughes Fire erupted as crews began their final efforts to extinguish the devastating and deadly Palisades and Eaton fires, which destroyed more than 17,000 structures in Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Altadena and Pasadena.
