Shelton – Sonego: 22.01.2025 Time TBA
H2H: 1-1
Ben Shelton has won four of his last five matches. In the opening Australian Open round, Shelton defeated Nakashima in tight straight sets. After that, in the second round, Ben defeated Carreno-Busta in four tight sets. This is his third appearance in the Australian Open. In the third round, Shelton defeated Musetti in four sets, as we predicted. Today against Monfils, Shelton led 2-1 when Monfils retired with a back injury. Last year, Ben was upset by Adrian Mannarino in the third round, losing in five tight sets.
Lorenzo Sonego has won four of his last five matches. In the Australian Open, Lorenzo defeated Wawrinka in four tight sets, as we predicted. It was a high-quality match, with both players playing aggressively. In the second round, Lorenzo upset Fonseca in five tight sets. In the third round, Sonego defeated Marozsan in four sets. After losing the first set 6-7, Sonego trailed in the second set tiebreak 3-6 but turned it around. Today, in the 1/8-Finals, Sonego defeated Tien in four sets, as we had predicted. Last year in Melbourne, Sonego reached the second round of the Australian Open, losing against Alcaraz in four tight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Shelton is the big favorite in this matchup, but we disagree. Sonego played great this week; we expect him to keep this match tight. Lorenzo is a dangerous player who can beat anyone when playing his best tennis. This match could go either way.
That being said, Sonego covering the games handicap is a value bet.

In the second round, Sinner defeated Schoolkate in four sets. Surprisingly, he lost the first set 4-6. In the third round, as we predicted, Sinner dominated against Giron in straight sets. Jannik is the defending champion in the Australian Open. Today, in the 1/8-Finals, Sinner defeated Rune in four sets, as we predicted. Last year, Sinner defeated Medvedev in five sets in the final after being 0-2 down.
Alex de Minaur has won six straight matches. In the opening Australian Open round, de Minaur won against Van de Zandschulp in straight sets. After that, in the second round, Alex also won against Boyer in straight sets. De Minaur is the eighth seed, and the home crowd has big expectations. As we predicted, de Minaur defeated Cerundolo in the third round in four tight sets. Today in the 1/8-Finals, Alex demolished Michelsen in straight sets. Last year in the Australian Open, de Minaur reached the 1/8-Finals, losing against Rublev in five sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Sinner is the favorite in this matchup, and we agree. Jannik is the biggest favorite to win the Australian Open. We expect him to prolong his winning streak and continue his dominance in Melbourne. Alex has no weapons for Jannik’s game.
That being said, Sinner covering the games handicap is a value bet.
