Heavy snow and cold winds are headed toward parts of Central NY and Upstate New York.
The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow warning for the Tug Hill region, including Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties; and for Northern Erie and Genesee counties, mainly from South Buffalo and eastward across southern Genesee County.
The Tug Hill Region could expect two to three feet of snow in the most persistent lake snows. The Buffalo area is expected to receive 8 to 16 inches in the most persistent lake snows, according to the weather service.
The weather service shows the Syracuse area is expected to get minimal snow, but a bitter cold will move into the region early next week with a potential for wind chills between -15 to -25 degrees at times. The coldest period is expected to be Monday night through Wednesday.
The snow will start in Buffalo later today, but the heaviest and most impactful snowfall is expected between late Monday afternoon, Monday night, and Tuesday.
In Oswego County, snow can be expected from 1 p.m. Monday to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Jefferson and Lewis counties can expect lake effect snow from 1 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Wednesday.
