First Look at Aged-Up ‘King of the Hill’ Gang Revealed

The official King of the Hill social account today debuted a first-look key visual for the acclaimed animated series’ return, which the post promises is coming “soon.” Hulu picked up the project in 2023 from sibling studio 20th Television Animation, after some six years of development. The reboot is created and executive produced by original co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, joined by executive producer and showrunner Saladin Patterson.

Set in the fictional town of Arlen, Texas, King of the Hill followed the life of Hank Hill, an enthusiastic seller of propane and propane accessories; his wife, Peggy, local Boggle champ and substitute teacher; and their 13-year-old son, Bobby, who defies any expectation his father had for a son. Hank’s friends — conspiracy theorist Dale, military barber Bill and cool but inarticulate Boomhauer, along with Peggy’s friends Minh and meteorologist Nancy and Bobby’s friend Connie, help the Hills navigate a changing world.

The new iteration will be set in the present day, nearly 30 years since the show originally premiered on Fox (1997). And the alleyway gang seems to have aged fairly well in the new teaser art! Returning voice stars include Mike Judge (Hank Hill and Jeff Boomhauer), Kathy Najimy (Peggy Hill), Stephen Root (Bill Dauterive), Pamela Adlon (Bobby Hill) and Lauren Tom (Minh and Connie Souphanousinphone). Johnny Hardwick, the voice of Dale Gribble and a writer/producer on the original series, passed away unexpectedly in August 2023, not long after he was announced as one of the reprising cast members for the new show.

In addition to Judge, Daniels and Patterson, 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg and Howard Klein, and Bandera Entertainment’s Dustin Davis serve as executive producers

King of the Hill ran for 13 seasons on Fox, earning an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program and a spot on Time‘s “Greatest TV Shows of All Time” list. The series has been translated into multiple languages and aired in 50 countries around the world.

Fans can get a first look at the new King of the Hill at ATX TV Festival in Austin later this month. Hulu will present a Reunion Panel and Sneak Peek screening on May 30. Read more here.
