Holdrege mourns loss of beloved teacher

COZAD, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a special education teacher and her family. Authorities were dispatched to a residence near Johnson Lake, outside of Cozad, on Saturday morning. Upon arrival, deputies discovered four deceased individuals in the home.

The deceased have been identified as 42-year-old Jeremy Koch, his wife Bailey Koch, a special education teacher at Holdrege Middle School, and their two sons, aged 16 and 18. The Nebraska State Patrol said they believe Jeremy Koch killed his wife and sons with a knife before taking his own life in a suspected murder suicide.

The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the ongoing investigation.

Holdrege Public Schools released a statement describing Mrs. Koch as “a passionate educator, a caring colleague, and a bright presence in the school community,” adding that “her presence will be deeply missed by all.”

Cozad Public Schools also acknowledged the “tragic situation” that will deeply affect the Cozad community. During a graduation ceremony at Cozad High School on Saturday, Superintendent Dr. Dan Endorf addressed the tragedy, noting the “bittersweet emotions” felt by the seniors on their graduation day.
