It’s back to interleague play for the Milwaukee Brewers as they host the Houston Astros for the first of a three-game series May 5.
Starting for the Brewers on the mound is Tobias Myers (0-0, 5.14) against Houston right-hander Ronel Blanco (2-2, 5.08).

The plays were there to be made. The Brewers just didn’t make them.
And in response, the Astros got back in the game. After a Jose Altuve double with one out in the sixth, Rhys Hoskins had a ball pop in and out of his glove on a diving attempt. That put men on the corner for Christian Walker, who grounded one back to Myers on the mound. Rather than go home for an out or look the runner back and fire to first, Myers tried to turn a double play and rushed the throw, which sailed high of Caleb Durbin at second.

Everyone was safe, making it 3-1. Myers’ day came to an end following a Yainer Diaz single to load the bases one batter later, but Nick Mears escaped the jam by striking out Zach Dezenzo and getting Jake Meyers to ground out.
Some heads-up hustle from Joey Ortiz helped put the Brewers on the board in the third. Ortiz, with only two extra-base hits since April 3, legged out a hustle double on a bloop to left that escaped a diving Zach Dezenzo.
Ortiz then came around to score on William Contreras’ two-out single on a rope to left, opening the game’s scoring.

Christian Yelich came through one batter later with a two-run homer to right-center, his sixth of the year. The ball traveled 413 feet. It was a big swing for Yelich, who was 0 for his last 18 before a hit Sunday and also fought back from down 1-2 in the count to pound a curveball down in the zone from Ronel Blanco.
His last time out, Tobias Myers was pulled after two innings by manager Pat Murphy for what the skipper viewed as a lack of crispness and conviction despite only two runs allowed to the White Sox.
“You don’t walk the leadoff hitter,” Murphy said Wednesday in Chicago. “You got to be able to come out in the game with your changeup already ready. It was more of a message to Tobias than anything else.”

Through five innings this time out, Myers hasn’t allowed a run while striking out one and giving up just three singles. He hasn’t had a single at-bat against him with a runner in scoring position.
