Islanders land No. 1 overall pick in NHL Draft Lottery stunner

What was already shaping up to be a transformational offseason for the Islanders is now even more so after a 3.5 percent shot at the No. 1 overall pick converted in Monday night’s draft lottery.

The Islanders won the chance to draft one of Michael Misa, Porter Martone, Matthew Schaefer or Long Island native James Hagens — the likely top four in the draft.

The club last drafted first overall in 2009, when it selected John Tavares
