Brentford vs Man United – LIVE!
Manchester United are expected to have one eye elsewhere as they travel to face Brentford this afternoon. Ruben Amorim’s side stunned Athletic Club with a 3-0 win away from home in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie on Thursday night, and the return fixture this week remains the priority for United.
Amorim has therefore rotated his side against the Bees, even if that means United could finish the day 16th in the Premier League table. Harry Amass, Tyler Fredricson and Chido Obi are among those to start, as Amorim makes eight changes to the side that won in Bilbao.
Brentford therefore have the chance to take advantage of a distracted opponent and victory could see them move up to ninth. The Bees were impressive in midweek in beating Nottingham Forest away from home and will be confident of picking up another positive result here, having taken points off Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks. 58 mins: Brilliant defending!
Wissa flies in to block Eriksen’s effort, and Obi’s strike from the edge of the area is then charged down.
Brentford can break, but Mbeumo’s cross is a poor one.
57 mins: Another Man United change.
Eriksen on to face his former club, replacing Mount.
Today brought Mount’s first goal in more than 400 days!
53 mins: Amad has his first run at Lewis-Potter and skips away on the outside.
Just runs out of space, though, as he gets to the byline, and loses his balance.
51 mins: Garnacho pulls back Norgaard, obvious free-kick.
Decides to scream at the referee anyway and throw his arms around in frustration… yellow card for dissent.
49 mins: Obi has barely had a touch for United.
Playing up front for them, regardless of who else is in the side, seems a pretty miserable experience.
46 mins: It’s like we’ve never been away. A long Brentford throw into the box coming up.
Maguire launches himself to the ground and a very generous whistle helps him out.
Amad and Yoro on for Dorgu and Shaw.
As it stands, Brentford are moving up to tenth in the table and only two points off eighth.
European football at the Gtech next season?
Brentford deservedly in front at the break, even if Garnacho has a chance to level with close to the final kick. Swung at thin air.
Man United scored with near enough their only attack, but the hosts have been much the better side apart from that.
Own goal from Shawe and a Schade header completed the turnaround
45+1 mins: Three minutes added on. United don’t want another three seconds.
Mainoo now hacks Mbeumo down, United can’t get out.
Will be interesting to see whether Amorim does turn to the likes of Fernandes or Amad, or just saves them for Thursday.
