A Boston-born Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee will appear on “American Idol” this Sunday as a guest mentor. James Taylor will be the latest legend to appear on the singing competition as a source of guidance for the remaining contestants.
“American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest announced Taylor’s upcoming appearance during Monday night’s episode of the program, which revealed the Top 14 contestants of Season 23.
“One of the greatest songwriters ever joins us on Sunday!” the “American Idol” Instagram account added, sharing the news on social media.
During the upcoming episode, the Top 14 contestants will perform music by past Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, and both Taylor and “Idol” artist-in-residence Jelly Roll will be on hand to share tips and encouragement.
Taylor, whose career in rock and folk spans roughly 60 years, was born in Boston in 1948, although his family moved to North Carolina three years later. Taylor was inducted into the esteemed Hall of Fame in 2000 alongside artists like Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, and Earth, Wind & Fire.
Other guest mentors who have appeared during Season 23 thus far include Ashanti and Josh Groban, who both mentored “Idol” hopefuls who made the Top 24.
