Red Sox Vs. Rays Lineups: Tanner Houck In Search Of First Win

The Boston Red Sox shook themselves out of their slump in Sunday afternoon’s series finale over the Chicago White Sox. As the road trip continues, a fresh three-game set opens up for the Red Sox to gather some much-needed momentum.

Boston next pays the American League East rival Tampa Bay Rays a visit and their temporary home park, George M. Steinbrenner Field, for the first time this season — Tropicana Field remains under repairs following damage to its retractable roof last October. The Red Sox enter their first of 13 scheduled meetings with the Rays who have gone 3-7 over their last 10 games played.

Right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck will take the mound, following up on Garrett Crochet’s thrilling no-hit bid on Sunday. Houck leaned into last season’s All-Star form and gave the Red Sox 6 2/3 innings with one run surrendered against the Toronto Blue Jays last Wednesday in a losing effort. It was Houck’s deepest outing recorded this season and now going up against Tampa Bay, the 28-year-old remains on the hunt for win No. 1 this season.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora kept the starting lineup nearly identical to Sunday’s in Chi-town, as David Hamilton’s swap with Ceddanne Rafaela was the only change. Hamilton will start at second base, which shifts rookie Kristian Campbell from the infield over to center field. They’ll go up against Rays right-hander Shane Baz.

First pitch from George M. Steinbrenner Field is set for 7:05 p.m. ET, and you can catch the live action, plus a full hour of pregame coverage, live on NESN.
