Phoenix Suns roll over San Antonio Spurs, snap 8-game losing streak behind Beal, Dunn

The Phoenix Suns won’t be in the 2025 NBA Playoffs, but they closed their home schedule with a dominant 117-98 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, April 11, snapping an eight-game losing streak.

Rookie Ryan Dunn scored his career-high 26 points for Phoenix on a stellar 10-of-21 shooting, including six 3s. Bradley Beal had 21 points, six assists, and four rebounds. Devin Booker put up 18 points, five assists and three boards. Grayson Allen contributed 15 points with six rebounds and six assists. Collin Gillespie added 13 points off the bench.

The Spurs’ top performers were Julian Champagnie (team-high 23 points, 6-of-9 from deep), Rookie of the Year candidate Stephen Castle had 16 on 60% shooting, and former Suns All-Star Chris Paul was held scoreless.

Phoenix had a five-point deficit after the first quarter, then had a second-quarter turnaround to lead by six at halftime. The third was all Phoenix, in which they pushed the margin to a massive 31 and never looked back.

The Suns play their season finale at the Sacramento Kings (39-41) on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Dunn reaches career-high, Suns roll in 3rd quarter

The Suns cruised to a 92-64 lead to close the third. Their largest advantage ballooned to 31 at 1:26 left.

The Suns started the third hot on a 15-4 run to gain a 17-point lead at 7:57 and piled on the margin from there.

Suns rookie Ryan Dunn added 12 to his career-best and game-high 24 points, and had a 5-of-6 shooting spree (9-of-18 FG overall, four 3s). Bradley Beal scored eight of his 21 points, and Devin Booker contributed seven of his 18 points in the third.

Booker had a little fun with his banked and-one jumper at 9:02 in 3Q. He laughed after landing on his back and froze with his head up like his memorable game-winning shot against the LA Clippers during the 2020 bubble. The Suns went up 64-51 at 8:44 left.

Beal, Suns rise in 2nd quarter

Bradley Beal added eight to his team-high 13 points in the second quarter, leading Phoenix to a 53-47 halftime advantage.

Julian Champagnie has San Antonio’s high 15 points, Stephon Castle has 12 and Chris Paul remains scoreless with just one assist.

At the quarter’s beginning, San Antonio stretched its initial five-point lead to the game’s widest margin 10 at 10:38. Then Phoenix went on a pair of runs, starting on a 13-4 surge over the next five-plus minutes and regained the lead at 46-45 after a Mason Plumlee dunk at 4:03. Phoenix eventually stretched the lead to eight at a minute left.

Castle, Spurs close 1st quarter on run

Ryan Dunn’s 10 points leads Phoenix, which has a 33-28 deficit to end the first quarter. Devin Booker has nine points for Phoenix’s second-most.

San Antonio’s Stephen Castle shot a perfect 5-of-5 for the game-high 12 points.

The Suns took their first lead by one off an 8-2 run at 2:44. Then the Spurs matched that brief surge with their largest lead of seven after a dunk by Malaki Branham at 1:15 and closed the opening period on an 8-2 run.

The Suns are starting Booker, Beal, Grayson Allen, Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro.

The Spurs will open with former Suns All-Star Chris Paul, leading Rookie of the Year candidate Stephen Castle, Harrison Barnes, Julian Champagnie and ex-Suns big Bismack Biyombo.

Spurs’ Fox out

In addition to Durant, Phoenix’s starting big Nick Richards (elbow) is out.

San Antonio’s veteran starting guard De’Aaron Fox (finger), Keldon Johnson (ankle), Riley Minix (shoulder) and Devin Vassell (ankle) are out.
