The Cavs (63-17, first in the East) locked up the top seed in the Eastern Conference and rested a majority of their starters for the tilt against Indiana on April 10. The Pacers outlasted the Cavs’ spirited effort, 114-112.

Shooting guard Ty Jerome poured in 24 points while small forward DeAndre Hunter added 23 in the loss. Rookie Jaylon Tyson missed a 14-foot buzzer beater in what was a strong showing from the reserves.

All-Stars Donovan Mitchell (24 PPG), Darius Garland (20.5 PPG) and Evan Mobley (18.6 PPG) were among those who did not play.

Cleveland is following suit for tonight’s game as Jerome (injury management), Mitchell (sprained ankle), Hunter (rest) and Sam Merrill (rest) will sit on the second night of a back-to-back. More players could be added to that list.

The Knicks (50-30, third in the East) have struggled of late, dropping two games in a row. Their most recent defeat came Thursday against the Detroit Pistons, 115-106. All five starters reached double figures for New York, led by Karl-Anthony Towns’ 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

New York is one game ahead of Indiana for the third seed with two games left to play. Whoever gets the fourth seed, will face Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round.

Towns (24 PPG) is listed as questionable for tonight’s game with a knee injury. He has kept the Knicks afloat until the highly anticipated return of star point guard Jalen Brunson.

Brunson (26 PPG), who has been sidelined an extended period with a right ankle sprain, is listed as questionable for tonight’s matchup.

The Cavs have won all three meetings this season. Only one of those games was by a margin of less than 19 points. New York is 27-13 at home this season. Cleveland is 29-11 on the road.
