Red Wings creep closer to playoff spot with 2-1 victory over Boston

Detroit — The Red Wings crept a little closer Saturday to a playoff spot.

It’s still bunched up, five teams separated by a point (pending the New York Rangers’ game in San Jose), but the Wings are one of the five after a 2-1 victory over the depleted Boston Bruins.

Marco Kasper and Lucas Raymond (power play) had Wings goals and goaltender Cam Talbot stopped 21 shots including a game-saving glove save on Casey Mittelstadt with 9.3 seconds left.

The Wings and New York Islanders both have 74 points, trailing Montreal (who owns the wild card spot), Columbus and the Rangers, who all have 75.

Morgan Geekie (power play) had the Bruins goal.

Kasper puts the Wings ahead 1-0, intercepting a pass near the blue line, skating to the dot and blasting a shot past goaltender Jeremy Swayman for Kasper’s 15th goal.

BOX SCORE: Red Wings 2, Bruins 1

The Wings went up 2-0 on Raymond’ 26th goal. Moritz Seider set Raymond up for a one-timer just 53 seconds into the second period.

But Boston cut the lead to 2-1 on Geekie’s 26th goal, redirecting a pass from David Pastrnak past Talbot at 2:12.
