The police in Troy, Mich., said they were investigating a shooting in a hospital parking lot on Thursday that appeared to be an isolated incident between two hospital employees. The shooter was not in custody, they said.
One victim was being treated in the emergency department, the hospital, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital, said in an emailed statement. The police said that the shooter, a man, had fired a handgun five times at the victim, a 25-year-old man, who was in stable condition after being hit two times in the arm.

Both the shooter and the injured person were employees of the hospital, Lt. Ben Hancock of the Troy Police Department told reporters at a news conference, calling it a “targeted incident.” The police know the identity of the shooter, he said.
The shooting took place just after 7 a.m., the police said. The hospital said it was on lockdown and patients with scheduled procedures were told to stay away.
Local news stations reported that law enforcement authorities were searching on the hospital campus, about 23 miles north of Detroit. They said schools in Troy were not on lockdown.
