As expected, the Celtics are going to get some of their guys rest on the second game of a back-to-back. After beating the Heat in Miami on Friday, the Celtics face the Nets at 6 p.m. Saturday in Brooklyn.
The C’s have five total rotation players listed on the injury report. Notably, Kristaps Porzingis was upgraded to probable for Saturday’s game with his illness. The big man has missed the past eight games, so it looks like he could make his return to the court.
Elsewhere, Al Horford (big toe sprain) and Derrick White (knee) are both doubtful. So they’ll likely sit Saturday. Jayson Tatum (knee) and Jaylen Brown (knee) are also both listed as questionable. Brown missed Friday’s win in Miami while Tatum played, so the stars could flip that for Saturday’s game in Brooklyn.
The Celtics are currently in second place in the East at 48-19. They’re 8.5 games behind the first-place Cavaliers and five games up on the third-place Knicks. The C’s also have 15 games left on the schedule with 12 of those coming against teams with a losing record.
So, they’ll likely manage their guys the rest of the way in preparation for what they hope will be another deep playoff run. Expect reserve guys to get more opportunities down the stretch with the open minutes.
