Man United player ratings vs Real Sociedad with a 9/10 and Ayden Heaven good

Manchester United are through to the quarter finals of the Europa League after a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad on Thursday.

Sociedad were awarded an early penalty after referee Benoît Bastien was advised to consult the pitchside monitor following a challenge from Matthijs de Ligt on Mikel Oyarzabal. Oyarzabal stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.

Minutes later United won a penalty of their own after a tackle from behind on Rasmus Hojlund. Bruno Fernandes sent Alex Remiro the wrong way to make it 1-1.

The third spot-kick of the game was awarded three minutes into the second half as Patrick Dorgu was brought down in the area and Fernandes converted the resulting penalty. Jon Aramburu was sent off for the visitors for a challenge on Dorgu. Fernandes scored his hat-trick late on and Diogo Dalot added another to seal the win.

Here are how the players rated at Old Trafford:

Andre Onana

Beaten for the 14th time out of 16 penalties, excluding shootouts. Made a routine stop and had a largely calm night. 6

Ayden Heaven

Had another fabulous and authoritative half and his confidence on the ball was apparent. Looked a veteran on only his third appearance. 8

Matthijs de Ligt

Ploughed through Oyarzabal early on to concede a penalty. His performance level did not plummet and navigated the rest of his evening calmly. 6

Noussair Mazraoui

Moved to the right of the back three after his promising stint on the wing against Arsenal and was calm as ever in defence. Crossed for Joshua Zirkzee to nod wide. 7

Diogo Dalot

Had plenty of the ball and served Alejandro Garnacho regularly. Received a death-stare from Casemiro after he was robbed of the ball. Scored late on. 7

Casemiro

Picked the lock with a great pass that led to the penalty and a big block late in the first half. Secure all night and got a standing ovation when he went off. 8

Bruno Fernandes

Converted from 12 yards to equalise six minutes after Sociedad went ahead. Then did it from the penalty spot at the other end in the second half. Then got a hat-trick. 9

Patrick Dorgu

Had lots of shots with little conviction but cutely won the penalty by going down under the challenge of Aritz Elustondo. Deliberately upended by Aramburu, who was sent off. 7

Joshua Zirkzee

Nifty piece of play to cross for Rasmus Hojlund’s chance in the first half. Brilliant ball through for Dorgu which led to the red card. Could and should have scored with his chances. 8

Alejandro Garnacho

Squared for Hojlund to shoot and win the penalty. Should have had a shot in the 65th minute but inexplicably pulled it back for Dorgu. Assisted Fernandes late on. 6

Rasmus Hojlund

Put himself about and drew blood from Igor Zubeldia as he had his best half in months, but steered his chance wide at 1-1. Fluffed a shot in the second half. 7

Subs

Toby Collyer

Energetic. 7

Christian Eriksen

Late cameo. 6

Manager

Dropping Victor Lindelof for Heaven was a welcome and bold selection that paid off. Faith in Casemiro was vindicated. 8
