Former Michigan edge Josh Uche is joining the Super Bowl champions.
The 26-year-old former second-round pick agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Uche had an up-close view of his new team last month when the Eagles routed the Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX. He was acquired by Kansas City midseason in a trade with the Patriots but was used sparingly down the stretch.
In six regular season games with the Chiefs, the 6-foot-1, 240-pounder totaled 10 tackles while playing 22% of defensive snaps. He did not appear in any of the team’s three playoff games.
With Philadelphia losing star pass rusher Josh Sweat to the Arizona Cardinals in free agency and 36-year-old defensive end Brandon Graham still contemplating retirement, Uche could have a path to a larger role with the Eagles.
Before the trade, Uche recorded 76 tackles and 20 ½ sacks in 58 games across 4 ½ seasons with the Patriots. He is just two years removed from an 11 ½-sack season.
The former two-team all-Big Ten honoree has never been a three-down player in the NFL, though, seeing a snap share below 40% in all five years of his career.
At Michigan, Uche registered six tackles and one sack over his first two seasons before emerging as a starter. He totaled 50 tackles, including 19 1/5 for loss and 15 1/5 sacks over his final two years.
