JACKSON, MI – A national craft retailer is closing its doors throughout the U.S., including in Jackson.
The Joann Fabrics and Crafts store at 1099 N. Wisner St. is one of 33 locations closing in Michigan. An exact closing date has yet to be determined, a company representative said.
Joann Fabrics and Crafts announced Wednesday, Feb. 12 it plans to close an estimated 500 stores across the country as part of ongoing bankruptcy proceedings. This will impact stores in all 50 states, according to a statement from the company.

The Ohio-based retailer announced the closures less than a month after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in less than a year. This was a difficult decision to make, given the impact it will have on staff and customers, according to the statement.
The company’s decision on which stores to close was based on a careful analysis of store performance and future strategies, according to the statement.
Other stores, including at 3750 W. Saginaw St. in Lansing, are expected to remain open.
