MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A First Alert Day has been issued for Wednesday. Snow will accumulate from Wednesday-to-Wednesday night. Expect 3 to 6 inches in most areas, with up to 6 to 9 inches along Lake Michigan and the Kettle Moraine. Lake-effect snow could make some areas even higher. Snow will be heaviest during the afternoon and evening, making travel hazardous. Snow and a possible wintry mix will return Friday evening into Saturday, bringing another round of accumulating snow.

What’s Coming Up…
Short-Term Forecast (Tonight through Wednesday Night): Tonight: Clear skies to start, but clouds will increase later. Lows will be in the low teens in the south, upper single digits in the rest of the area. Wednesday: Snow starts around 9 AM, with heavier snowfall by midday. Areas near Lake Michigan could see up to 0.75 inches of snow per hour. Winter Storm Warnings are in place for these areas, expecting 6 to 9 inches of snow. Elsewhere, expect 3 to 6 inches. Snow tapers off late Wednesday night, turning into light snow showers, then ending by late night. Cold air follows, with single-digit lows Thursday morning.

Long-Term Forecast (Thursday through Tuesday): Thursday: Snow ends, but brisk winds and cold temperatures remain. Highs in the single digits to teens, with below-zero wind chills at night. Friday to Saturday: A new storm will bring snow and a wintry mix, with some uncertainty about exact timing and areas affected. Precipitation may start Friday evening, with more possible on Saturday. Weekend into Next Week: Cold and dry weather will follow with below-normal temperatures. A few light snow showers may occur next Tuesday to Wednesday.
