Airplane owned by rock legend crashes, 1 dead and 3 injured

A plane owned by Motley Crue’s lead singer Vince Neil crashed, killing one passenger and injuring three others. Neil himself was not on board.

The crash occurred Monday afternoon at Scottsdale Municipal Airport in Arizona. Neil’s longtime girlfriend, Rain Hannah, was injured and sustained five broken ribs in the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane, a Learjet 35A which had operated from Austin, Texas, veered off the runway as it was arriving at 2:39 p.m. and struck a Gulfstream 200 business jet that was parked.

One unnamed passenger was pronounced dead and three others were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. A fifth person refused medical treatment.

Motley Crue posted a statement identifying the plane’s pilot as the sole casualty before deleting the post and putting out another statement that did not specify who had died.

“For reasons unknown at this time, the plane veered from the runway causing it to collide with another parked plane. On board Mr. Neil’s plane were two pilots and two passengers. Mr. Neil was not on the plane,” the statement read. “More specific details regarding the collision are not available as this is a rapidly evolving situation and there is an ongoing investigation.”

A further investigation is being conducted by The National Transportation Safety Board.

The Scottsdale airport does not offer commercial flights or airline service although it houses many corporate private jets. The PGA Tour held the Phoenix Open over the weekend causing it to be one of the airport’s busiest times of the year.
