What caused the crash at the Scottsdale Airport?

Airport officials said it appears the landing gear failed on a Learjet 35A after touching down. The plane veered off the runway and hit another airplane that was parked on private property.

What do we know about the people who were hurt?

Scottsdale fire officials have released few details about the people on the planes. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, four people were on the Learjet and one person was on the parked Gulfstream jet. In addition to the person who died, three others were injured, two critically.

Officials have not said which plane the person who was killed was on, but the damage to the Learjet would suggest it was that aircraft. They also have not yet said which plane the critically injured people were on. One of the five people refused treatment.

How is Motley Crue’s Vince Neil connected to the crash?

Vince Neil, the frontman for the rock band Motley Crue, owns the Learjet whose landing gear failed, according to a filing with the Wyoming secretary of state. He was not on board the flight, which was coming from Austin. Neil lives in Tennessee, near Nashville.

Who is leading the investigation of the Scottsdale plane crash?

Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board were on scene and will lead the investigation. The airport runway was closed much of Monday.
